Al Hassan Engineering wins MEED Quality Award for 'Power & Water Desalination Project' of the year 2012 (01 Sep 2013)

Al Hassan Engineering Co. SAOG (AHEC), one of Oman’s leading Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractors has received the prestigious MEED Quality Awards as a National Winner- Oman for the Barka 3 IPP Power project in the category of Power & Water Desalination Project of the year 2012. The awards were presented at a dinner held at the Jumeirah Etihad Towers hotel in Abu Dhabi recently.

Commenting on the award, Mr. Peter Hall, CEO-AHEC said, " the BARKA III IPP PROJECT was undertaken by a consortium of GS E & C (Korea) & SIEMENS (Germany) and is a combined cycle power plant with a design capacity of 750 MW. We at AHEC, working directly with GS E&C were responsible for the Civil and Building works. We are delighted to to receive this Award as it further underlines our position and reputation as one of the Sultanates leading local contractors in the delivery of quality construction solutions . In addition working on this project allowed us to continue and build on the business relationship that we have had over a number of years in working with both GS Engineering & Construction and Siemens. This close cooperation was a major contributing factor to our ability to win this great award.

"The National Winners of all the GCC countries deserve the highest commendations for completing projects which will have a tremendous impact on the continued development of the region," said Edmund O'Sullivan, chairman of the judging panel.

MEED Quality Awards for Projects are designed to recognize and reward best practices in construction projects throughout the GCC region. These merit-based awards are judged by professional and independent members of the GCC engineering community, coming from the Gulf Engineering Forum and the Society of Engineers within each GCC nation. Five factors evaluated in the delivery of the project include economic and social feasibility; architecture and design; engineering; construction procurement and project management; environmental impact and sustainable development.
