The Sindbad Mobile Library has been established by Al Roya Press and Publishing to strengthen the habit of reading in Omani children through a journey across the various Governorates and Wilayats of Oman.
"Al Hassan strongly believes in the need to bring about a positive change in society through novel initiatives like the 'Sindbad Children’s Mobile Library'. Reading is important for the overall development of the mind and it should be introduced at the early stages, so children grow up to become aware and intelligent individuals. We laud Al Roya’s efforts to make reading accessible in Oman and have high regard for their meaningful contribution." Said Mr. Maqbool Ali Salman, MD, Al Hassan Group.
Mr. Hatim Al Taie, CEO of Al Roya newspaper, who initiated the Sindbad Children’s Mobile Library, has said that the popularity and enthusiasm with which the Library is greeted as it visits towns and villages in Oman, is beyond his dreams and expectations; at times to be point of being overwhelming. The sheer joy on the faces of the children and often the parents too, as they see the range of books. Over 2300 titles are carried on board the SCML, of which more than 1500 are in Arabic.
"We are greatly indebted to sponsors such as Al Hassan Group for their generosity and support. Their commitment to such initiatives as the SCML have helped us provide opportunities for children to read for pleasure which ultimately have a positive effect on society; as children who read are more employable, more socially aware and can become tomorrow’s leaders."
